چکیده

Abstract This study investigated the efficiency of CO 2 curing in blast-furnace slag pastes activated with three concentrations KOH solution (3, 4, and 5 M). The was applied into alkali-activated paste for 3 days. -cured were subjected to subsequent a water bath or exposed seawater. mechanical properties characteristics reaction products compared. Full strength can be obtained within days early curing. remained almost constant regardless activator concentration. samples produced more CaCO after exposure carbonates filled micropores samples, no reduction observed. hydrates Ca(OH) C–S–H(I) are carbonated, forming calcite amorphous during seawater as well A less dense matrix lower concentration facilitated diffusion promoted carbonation paste. polymerization relatively slow low activity, period curing, sample prepared at

Microstructural Changes Induced by CO2 Exposure in Alkali-Activated Slag/Metakaolin Pastes

The structural changes induced by accelerated carbonation in alkali-activated slag/ metakaolin (MK) cements were determined. The specimens were carbonated for 540 h in an environmental chamber with a CO2 concentration of 1.0 ± 0.2%, a temperature of 20 ± 2°C, and relative humidity of 65 ± 5%. Accelerated carbonation led to decalcification of the main binding phase of these cements, which is an ...

SELF-Cured Alkali Activated Slag Concrete Mixes- An Experimental Study

Alkali Activated Slag Concrete (AASC) mixes are manufactured by activating ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) using sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solutions. The aim of the present experimental research was to investigate the effect of increasing the dosages of sodium oxide (Na2O, in the range of 4 to 8%) and the activator modulus (Ms) (i.e. the SiO2/Na2O ratio, in the range of ...

The Interfacial Transition Zone in Alkali-Activated Slag Mortars

The interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is known to strongly influence the mechanical and transport properties of mortars and concretes. This paper studies the ITZ between siliceous (quartz) aggregates and alkali-activated slag (AAS) binders in the context of mortar specimens. Backscattered electron (BSE) images generated in an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) are used to identif...

Comparative Study of Alkali-Activated Fly Ash Manufactured Under Pulsed Microwave Curing and Thermal Oven Curing

This paper compares the alkali-activated fly ash (AAFA) manufactured with thermal oven curing and pulsed microwave curing methods. Fly ash activated by 8M NaOH solution at a liquid to solid ratio of 0.3 was cured by thermal oven at 85°C and domestic microwave oven, respectively. Apart from compressive strength test, the temperature profiles of AAFA samples were captured by thermal camera. React...
